My Guayaquil Thoughts

Guayaquil sign of Guayaquil in Guayaquil

As I returned from Peru to head back to Ecuador, I want to give my Guayaquil thoughts. In particular, I needed to go to this city to start my transit back home. My expectations were low since I have read my research that this city was more of purely a jump off spot to go to the Galapagos Islands.

I spent my time doing several things such as walking up the “444 stairs”, riding the gondola, going to their big retail street market area, and I even went to the barbershop. One thing that was disappointing was that Isla Santay was closed as I hoped to take either a boat or to walk the bridge in order to reach the island but both options were forbidden during my short stay in Guayaquil. Guayaquil does offer several salsa clubs but it seems like once the clock struck 9pm on a Wednesday, the streets were almost completely dry. Again, my thoughts about this city is to use its airport to then transit to another city or even country as I cannot recommend for nor against going to this city in short summary. Keep in mind I only spent 3 days of my trip there to wind things down.
