On last night, I had a futbol bucket list in Costa Rica item which was to attend a professional sports match in another country albeit when my soccer team Atlanta United played Herediano FC for leg 1 of the Concacaf Champions League 1st round. I was excited for this match since I found out the matchup in early January and decided it was time to make my 1st ever visit to Costa Rica.
Upon getting to the futbol stadium in Heredia, I found that local security volunteers and fans were very friendly after seeing the team I was representing on my t-shirt. The experience inside the stadium reminded me off my high school football (American football) atmosphere. Their marketing people were handing out balloons for fans to blow up to wave during the game and many popped them throughout. The fans of Herediano did not disappoint after scoring a goal, they went completely crazy.
Unfortunately the result on the field for my team did not go well but I enjoyed witnessing the camaraderie amongst the fans and the proudness they displayed for their team and affection for the opposing fans.
