Here are some travel saving tips by category:

Flights

• Follow Secret Flying, TravelPirates, and The Flight Deal for flight deals.

Housing

• Consider hotel alternatives such as an Airbnb or consider booking a hostel or guesthouse.

Tours

• If you are booking tours ,generally you will get a better rate by waiting until you arrive at your destination. Exceptions to this rule I would consider would be tours to places such as the Amazon, Safaris in Africa, and Galapagos islands which generally require 3+ night stays.

Credit Cards

• There are many credit cards that offer signup bonuses when you reach the minimum spend within a given time. These are very excellent when it comes to paying for an expensive vacation and include other useful travel perps.

Travel Insurance

• When I travel I buy an individual travel plan which gives me more coverage options to choose from (not one of those you have the option to buy when on one of the travel search booking engines like Expedia, Travelocity or the ones the airlines offer). I use InsureMyTrip to search for travel insurance plans to fit my needs and coverage options.
