Tarsiers The New Gremlins

Tarsier in the tree

Today I went on an adventure to head to the island of Bohol to see tarsiers the new gremlins. These creatures are only found in a few different countries (Malaysia, The Philippines, and Indonesia) in the entire world but are an endangered animal with estimated to be less than 10,000 remaining. Now to be brief, this day started with a ferry from Cebu City, then several buses and motorbike taxis which is typical for getting around many islands in the Philippines.

The tarsier sanctuary that we visited had several tarsiers that could be found in the trees. Many were sleeping or at least trying to sleep. The animal keepers even helped take close up pictures of the small creatures as they are about the size of your fist.

Leading up to our visit to the tarsier sanctuary, we went to see Chocolate Hills viewpoint. To give a visual, the hills are like mini mountainous hills around the island. Proceeding our visit from those adventures we went to Bilar-Man Made Forest really just a normal forest to me. But it was partially man made which is better explained in Jonny Melon’s Travel Blog.

Once we we were finished with our adventures for the day, we attempted to get back to the nearest port which was in Tagbilaran but we ended up just missing the last ferry of the day by mere minutes. The reason we missed it was due to the ticketing office and seat check-in office are in separate locations. The locations were a 10 minute walk from each other at the port. We considered making an attempt at going to another port and taking a lite cargo ship to get back to Cebu City but I squashed that idea due to the sunset and additional logistics needed just to get back to Cebu the next day. In just minutes later, a rainstorm started and it confirmed my gut feeling so we decided to spend 1 night near the Tagbilaran port so we could take the 1st ferry in the morning back to Cebu. All in all, this was an adventure that was worth the journey.
