Time For A Bungee Jump Off

Me bungee jumping over the canyon

As I made my way back to South America, it was time for a bungee jump off since I had set my sights back towards knocking off some bucket list items. So what better place to head then off to San Gil, Colombia which is known for adventure sport activities and South America’s highest bungee jump.

The day began with a bus trip from Bucaramanga, which is a city surrounded with mountains and canyons in itself. When I arrived the city was a bit reminiscent of Cusco in terms of having stairways going up a hill within the downtown old city area. Once there, I immediately made the trek up and back down the mountain side after my bungee jump.

Once I arrived to Bungee Extremo San Gil, I spoke with the proper bungee authorities since I did not have a reservation. My experience began with 4 Colombian guys who were about to make the jump for their 1st time as well as we all got on the bungee wirestand to transcend to the middle of the canyon. Once in the middle of the canyon, the 1st brave soul went through the process. Not to be last, I chose to go next. The bad thing was that I got so anxious and jumped without them properly hooking me up to the proper safety cords and I went into the ravine below. Just kidding on that part but I did continue free falling for a while until it stopped. This was only part as I still had to grab onto this other rope “James Bond style” while upside down since it was connected to a pulley which was used to pull me back up to the wirestand. After I accomplished this cliffhanger type task, it was smooth sailing back up.

The activity itself was 120K Colombian pesos (about $35 USD) which includes a life insurance policy but I highly recommend a trip to San Gil if you have the heart for adventure sports.
